Many banks, having survived poor underwriting and credit management practices in a stronger economic environment, are increasingly challenged to do so in the current, prolonged recession. Credit losses are mounting, capital is being burned through at alarming rates, regulators are saying “Do something!”, and many banks lack the credit management experience or knowledge to reverse the trends.
